What is lactose intolerance?
Lactose intolerance is the body’s inability to break down and digest lactose. Lactose is a simple carbohydrate, also known as one of the sugars in milk, which is made up of glucose and galactose. To break down this carbohydrate, the body has the enzyme lactase; the inability to produce it is one of the reasons why this intolerance occurs.
The lactose intolerance can manifest at any age. It mainly causes various gastrointestinal discomforts. The most common symptoms include:
- Abdominal bloating
- Abdominal pain
- Gas
- Diarrhea
Prevalence and difference compared to milk allergy
The prevalence of lactose intolerance varies depending on the population and ethnicity. In general, it is estimated that more than 65% of the world’s population suffers from some degree of lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance tends to increase with age. The body’s production of lactase tends to decrease over time in some people. It can also occur in people who, for no particular reason, stop consuming products containing lactose. Most likely, after a long period, if they decide to consume them again, their body will not be able to produce sufficient amounts of lactase.
In Europe, prevalence tends to be lower. On the other hand, suffering from lactose intolerance is more common in Asia and Africa.
Lactose intolerance and milk allergy are not the same thing. Milk allergy, like other types of allergies, involves a response from the immune system to milk proteins when the person consumes it.

How can I improve the digestion of products containing lactose?
There are many alternatives to choose from. The most notable include:
- Lactase supplements: Lactase supplements provide this enzyme so that foods containing lactose can be digested when taken together with them. They should be taken before consuming them.
- Foods with added lactase: more and more dairy products with added lactase are becoming available.
- Yogurts and fermented cheeses: these foods are often better tolerated by people with lactose intolerance. The more matured a cheese is, the lower its lactose content.
Lactase supplement. Life Pro Lactase Enzyme:
Life Pro Lactase Enzyme Tolerase L is a supplement that provides the lactase enzyme, which is responsible for breaking down the lactose present in foods. Lactase promotes the breakdown of lactose into glucose and galactose, facilitating its digestion and absorption. Life Pro Lactase Enzyme Tolerase L is especially recommended for people with lactose intolerance. This supplement has been formulated using high-quality raw materials and features the Tolerase™ L patent.
Tolerase™ L is an acid lactase obtained from a special strain of the Aspergillus oryzae fungus. Its efficient activity at a low pH (3.5 – 5.5) makes it an optimal option for the digestion of lactose in the stomach, making it ideal for inclusion in dietary supplements as digestive support.
What are its main benefits?
- Provides an effective and safe enzyme that facilitates the digestion of foods containing lactose.
- Breaks down lactose into glucose and galactose.
- Uses a patented raw material: Tolerase L.
- Helps alleviate the discomfort associated with lactose intolerance.
- Helps prevent gas, bloating, and abdominal cramps that often occur after consuming dairy products.
