The pumpkin is a vegetable with excellent nutritional value, as well as a delicious, very distinctive flavor and a very pleasant texture. Although it can currently be found all year round, the best time to enjoy it is in autumn, when the highest-quality varieties are harvested. In this post, we will give you two pumpkin recipes so that you can prepare it and enjoy its benefits.

Types of pumpkin

There are more than 9,000 types of pumpkin, with the following standing out:

  • Peanut or butternut squash: elongated in shape with sweet flesh.
  • Violin pumpkin: one of the most common in Spain, also with a sweet flavor and smooth texture.
  • Potimarron pumpkin: somewhat smaller than the previous ones, and with a slight nutty flavor.

In Spain, the main pumpkin-producing regions are Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, and the Valencian Community. It is a very versatile food and can be used in a wide variety of pumpkin recipes in Spanish cuisine.

The properties of pumpkin:

Low in calories

Calabaza asada al horno con canela

Course Merienda

¿Qué necesitas?

  • 1 tabla de cortar
  • 1 cuchillo
  • 1 bandeja de horno
  • 1 papel de horno

Ingredients
  

  • 500 gramos de calabaza (puedes usar cualquier variedad que prefieras) 
  • edulcorante al gusto o miel 
  • 1 pizca de sal 
  • canela en polvo al gusto

Instructions
 

  • Lavamos la calabaza.
  • Comenzamos cortando sobre una tabla de cortar,  la calabaza en rodajas del mismo tamaño. No es necesario retirar la cáscara. 
  • Precalienta el horno a 180ºC
  • Una vez listas las rodajas, colocamos papel de horno sobre la bandeja de horno.
  • Coloca las rodajas de calabaza. Añade canela al gusto, una pizca de sal, y de forma opcional miel o edulcorante.
  • Hornea durante 25-30 minutos. Hasta que comience a dorarse.
  • Y listo. Puedes disfrutar de la calabaza al horno caliente o fría. Puedes acompañarla con tus toppings favoritos, como por ejemplo unas nueces o almendras.
